The right recruitment strategy builds trust early, holds onto it, and never lets go. Here's what that means in practice.
Before someone applies, they’ll look you up. They’ll scroll through your social media, check your reviews, and browse your website. That’s where your employer brand lives, and it needs to speak for itself.
What will they see? Real stories from your team? Clear values? A sense of energy and purpose? Or just another corporate page with stock photos and buzzwords? If you want people to want to work for you, show them who you are.
Today’s candidates shop around, so it’s safe to assume that they’re at least passingly familiar with your competition’s recruitment policies; they may even have taken part in the interview process elsewhere, either now or in the past. If you want to stand out, keep your recruitment straightforward and respectful of their time.
Take tech. The tech industry is notorious for its interviewing, with round after round of grilling, presentations and unpaid trial work in the name of “problem solving”. And if you don’t think it’s a problem, take a look at LinkedIn, where you can find posts with hundreds or thousands of likes complaining about drawn-out hiring processes.
Streamline your process. Eliminate unnecessary steps and focus on meaningful conversations that accurately assess fit. A shorter, clearer hiring journey shows you value candidates – and makes them more likely to accept the offer.
What you offer outside the role matters just as much as what’s in the job description. When candidates are comparing employers, perks and benefits can be the difference between a 'yes' and a 'no'. So, if you want to attract great people, show them that you care about their lives beyond work.
That might look like gym discounts, dining and entertainment perks, mental health support, or exclusive lifestyle rewards. Whatever the mix, it should reflect what your team actually values, not just what looks good on paper. At Ello Group, we create tailored employee benefit programmes that give people perks they want, so believe us when we say that it makes a difference!
Where are your best hires coming from? Which parts of your process lose the most candidates? What’s working? Recruitment data can tell you.
Start by tracking performance across platforms. You may get most of your applicants through a particular site, but how many of your actual hires are from there? Were they all weeded out before the final round of interviews? If so, you know where and where not to focus your time and energy when recruiting.
Your current team can be your most powerful recruitment tool. They know the business, they understand the culture, and chances are they know someone who’d be a great fit. But they need a reason to make that intro.
Offer rewards for successful referrals, make it easy to share open roles, and most importantly, act on the leads you’re given. A good referral programme builds trust on both sides: staff feel empowered, leading to stronger staff retention strategies, and candidates arrive with a built-in connection.
At Ello Group, we help businesses create bespoke benefits schemes that genuinely support employees. We work with thousands of businesses, creating tailored loyalty and rewards platforms with a range of work-life balance perks. Did you have dining rewards and entertainment benefits in mind? Or do you prefer the idea of coffee shop rewards and cinema rewards? Whatever the case, we’re pretty sure your employees will love the savings that Ello Group can offer them.
